Thoracic Surgeon, Dr. Emmanouel Georgiannakis, was trained and graduated as an Advanced Fellow in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery Techniques (robotic and thoracoscopic techniques) from Shanghai Chest Hospital (Jiatong University). Shanghai Chest Hospital ranks first in the world in Thoracic Surgery, performing 80 thoracic surgeries per day.
He was the first Greek to graduate from the said Thoracic Surgery Institution and was awarded with the right to practice surgery there. In 2015, he was trained as an Observer in Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. He received his specialty in Thoracic Surgery from the University Clinic of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Attikon University Hospital at the Department of Thoracic Surgery and General Surgery, the Metaxa Cancer Hospital of Piraeus and the Medical Institution Military Shareholder Fund.
He has also received various trainings abroad at schools specialised in Heart and Thoracic Surgery in Leeds, England (St. James Hospital) (2014), in Leuven Belgium (2009), in Barcelona (2010), etc.
The early 2017, he performed the first major thoracoscopic surgeries at Metropolitan Hospital in Athens.
In October 2017, he organised the establishment of the new Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery Department of Metropolitan Hospital and has been working as the Director of the Department ever since.
In November 2017 and upon special training, he received the title of Console Surgeon for the Da Vinci Robotic System at the Research Institute against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD) in Strasburg, France.
On 7 February 2018, he performed the first Robotic Lung Lobectomy in Greece and throughout Southeast Europe (SEERS), fully recognised by the American company Intuitive Surgical through the Greek representative, Sofmedica.
On 6 September 2018, Dr. Georgiannakis and AIMIS specialised team performed the first robotic thymectomy in Cyprus and, on 27 January 2019, the first robotic lung lobectomy in Cyprus.
He has performed a plethora of thoracoscopic (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)) and robotic (robot-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS)) thoracic surgeries and continues to strongly promote minimally invasive techniques both in Greece and abroad.
